Cold Weather in Carpinteria, Goleta, and Santa Ynez Concerns Farmers
Wind machines are roaring in Carpinteria this week to circulate the air, and prevent frost damage to crops including avocados.
Along Foothill Road temperatures this morning were 32 degrees. Goleta had areas reporting 30. Both have agricultural land that is now at risk if the temperatures dip farther for long periods.
The Santa Ynez Valley and Lompoc also have acres of farm land that growers are watching carefully with temperatures dropping below 30 degrees for several overnight hours, under clear skies with no cloud cover. Under 28 degrees is called a “hard freeze” if it lasts two hours or more.
There’s one more day of very cold temperatures before the high pressure builds back up over California and highs return to the 70’s with overnight lows in the 40’s.
