Rollover Near Carpinteria Shuts Down Freeway
A Friday morning vehicle accident left one man hospitalized and the freeway shut down creating traffic back-up.
The accident happened shortly before 9 a.m. on the southbound side of Highway 101 just south of Padaro Lane.
CHP said 44-year-old Carpinteria resident, William Avila Jr. suffered major injuries including fractured ribs and jaw.
The California Highway Patrol said the driver of the vehicle, a Nissan Frontier, allowed the left front of the car to strike the guardrail. The Nissan then overturned causing Avila to be ejected and landing on the roadway until help arrived.
At one point, all lanes were blocked off of the 101 southbound, and morning commuters were stuck until CHP was able to open one lane.
All lanes opened at about 10 a.m.
Investigators noted that alcohol and drugs were not a factor in this accident.
