High Surf and King Tides Bring Dangerous Waves to Central Coast
Big waves are making an appearance along the central coast. The large waves are a combination of high surf and king tides. King tides are the most extreme tides of the year. These special tides happen near the solstices so general on the shortest and longest days of the year.
The National Weather Service says, this period of king tides should wrap up by Tuesday.
So while they are here surfers are out and enjoying this unusual event.
“They were actually a little scary I tend to like smaller ones,” said Jessica Talley.
“They were a little bigger than I expected. I had some hard hits but it was worth it every second,” said Lindsey Richardson.
“If the waves are far enough out there, you can ride it until your legs get tired and that is what is awesome about the point,” said Dan Garber.
While surfers enjoy the ride of their lives, lifeguards warn waves like this could catch even the experienced off guard.
