Two Local Police Organizations Get Financial Boost During Holidays

Two local police organizations get a big financial boost just days before Christmas.

The Montecito Motor Classic committee presented a $100,000 dollar check to the Santa Barbara Police Foundation and the Police Activities League, or PAL Saturday at PAL headquarters on Chapala Street.

The 40 member committee puts on the Montecito Motor Classic car show and other fundraisers throughout the year.

The money will be divided up between both organizations.

“We wanted to give to the foundation because it gives to the families of the police officers. PAL goes to the children, so it’s a win win for us,” said Dolores Johnson of the Montecito Motor Classic committee.

PAL says it will use some of the money to send kids to summer camp.

“Every year, we do a program with 14 camp providers in town and give out close to 500 scholarships to kids that otherwise would be latch key kids without experience to go to camp. This money is going to help make that happen,” said Kent Wojciechoski of PAL.

The foundation will use some of the donated money to help families of police officers who have health issues or personal needs.
