PCH Expected to Be Closed a Month

Pacific Coast Highway from Las Posas Road near Camarillo to Yerba Buena Road in Malibu is closed. Caltrans says this section of the highway will most likely be closed for the next four weeks. This comes after last Friday’s storm caused more than a dozen mudslides in the area, and this storm is bringing even more mud and debris on to the road.

The most impacted area is Sycamore Canyon where the mud was packed 4 feet high and more than 500 feet long.

The mudslides are occurring in the same area the Springs Fire burned in May 2013.

Caltrans says they are working to remove the mud and rocks but they also have to reposition k-rails and fix some fencing.

During the closure all vehicles and bicycles will be banned from the roadway.

The California Highway Patrol says the best alternate route is on Highway 101 and 405.
