Broken Boats, Debris, and Dead Animals Left Behind After Storm

An unusual creatures, three broken boats, and piles of debris are among the leftovers from the latest storm to come through Santa Barbara.

Marborg Industries will be out at low tide Wednesday to dig up the boats, all east of Stearns Wharf, and remove them from the beach. One is nearly entirely covered up in sand and oil is leaking to the surface. It’s a priority removal job.

Ironically, two others are dead in the water below the cemetery.

A bizarre creature with brown skin and sharp teeth was seen on the Santa Barbara sand, but passersby did not know what it was. On our social media pages residents are making their guesses. One person sent in a similar picture from another nearby beach.

CalTrans is using special equipment to clean drains on and off the freeway including at the notoriously swamped Castillo St. underpass.

Earlier in the day when rain was more intense, there was a rollover accident on Highway 101 in Gaviota closing two lanes.

Most of the rain moved through this morning with more coming this evening according to data in our First Alert weather center. Clearing skies take over on Wednesday.
