Santa Barbara Golf Course in Trouble
The Santa Barbara Municipal Golf Course is a few strokes behind when it comes to making its budget, and the reserves could be completely depleted next year unless its finances are restructured.
The Santa Barbara City Council is going to look at the future of the course at a meeting Tuesday night at City Hall.
The golf course has been hit financially by less people playing the course.
A consultant’s report says maintenance costs are more than $400,000 higher than for similar courses because of higher public employee salary, and benefit costs.
Potential options include outsourcing maintenance to reduce costs, or treating it like a park, and providing it with general fund subsidies to cover losses.
