Santa Maria School On Lockdown Following Police Activity
Arellanes Junior High School in Santa Maria went on lockdown shortly after 9 a.m. Friday following police activity by the Santa Barbara County Sheriff Department.
Deputies searched the 3500 block of Pinewood Road for one of two suspicious suspects they believed may have been committing car burglaries in the area.
Deputies were concerned that the suspect may have been armed which prompted the school lockdown. That person was never located.
According to the Santa Barbara Sheriff Department, one suspect was arrested earlier in the day on a number of charges that included being an ex-felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition.
The school lockdown was lifted just before 11 a.m.
