Veterans Honored at Ceremony in Ventura
One of the largest Veterans Day ceremonies in the tri-counties was held in Ventura at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park.
Hundreds gathered at the 10 a.m. ceremony to honor local Veterans and thank them for their service.
The sights and sounds of Veterans Day at Ivy Lawn reminded the crowd that today is not just another day off, it is a time to thank Veterans.
Steve Bennet, a Ventura County supervisor was the keynote speaker.
The ceremony wrapped up with the Scottish bagpipes and a white dove release.
Veterans that attended the ceremony said they felt honored to be recognized in this way.
“We were not welcomed home when we came back. So it is really nice to see the country has changed to except us now as honorable veterans,” said veteran Larry Sea.
“When I see my brothers around me, it makes me feel good,” said veteran Simon Camarillo.
Every Veterans Grave at Ivy Lawn was marked with a small American Flag.
The ceremonial Avenue of the Flags was also shown off at Ivy Lawn. All of the flags flying on the property were draped on caskets of veterans and donated by their families.
