Thousands Of Butterflies Arrive in Pismo Beach
Four-year-old Molina Mansfied had different plans for her Sunday afternoon.
“I kind of went out to go to the beach,” she said as she looked through a telescope into the trees above.
“Then we saw this place. Molina said “this place” is unlike any other place she’s ever visited. “So, I kind of found a lot more butterflies there’s really, really a lot!”
Molina is talking about the Monarch Butterfly Grove in Pismo Beach where thousands of black and orange butterflies have migrated.
“This grove creates a very special micro climate, so we have monarch butterflies here this is a holding pattern for four months,” said Heather Biscoe.
Biscoe works at the Grove. The butterflies pick this location because of its mild climate and perfect amount of sunlight. There are not just one or two monarchs, but thousands.
An estimated six thousand have shown up for the moment, and as the season continues those numbers will climb.
Experts believe the butterflies will stay at the grove until December.
They’re expecting lots of visitors within that time, visitors like Molina, who said this is now her new favorite place.
Admission is free to the Grove, pets and bicyclists are also welcome.
