50 Santa Maria-Bonita Teachers Receive $300 Grant
Fifty teachers in the Santa Maria-Bonita School District are splitting a $15,000 grant.
Each of the awarded teachers will get $300 to enhance education in the classroom.
Eighth-grade teacher Doug Anderson is using his portion of the grant to buy a second computer for his students at Arellanes Junior High School.
“I want them to be interested and motivated to use technology,” said Anderson.
Santa Maria based nonprofit organization Altrusa International of Golden Valley funded the grant.
The organization helps disadvantaged children in elementary and middle schools.
Brandon Shores is one of the students who will benefit from Altrusa International’s donation.
He is excited about the additional computer and interactive programs that he and his classmates will get to use in class.
“For hands-on people this will be easier … you can learn two subjects at once instead of just one at a time,” said Shores.
Arellanes Junior High School’s principal, Staci Rivera, tells KEYT/KCOY/KKFX’s Cory James “in learning if you expose [students] to all different things something is going to inspire them.”
Doug Anderson said he is going to apply for one more grant this year to put an additional computer in his classroom for his students.
