Santa Ynez Filmmaker Offers Free Screening of Documentary on Native American War Veterans

A Santa Ynez filmmaker is screening his film on Native American war veterans Thursday on the Chumash Reservation.

The documentary is called “Healing The Warrior’s Heart” and examines the healing practices of PTSD for Native Americans.

Local Gary Robinson and his team have traveled to numerous Indian reservations across the country, talking with veterans about their experiences.

It also talks about the role the military plays in native life and explores the spiritual traditions of healing.

The movie will air on PBS and they are showcasing their project early for the community.

Co-producer Robinson said, “I’m very excited about the fact that this film points to alternative strategies for helping PTSD sufferer; not just veterans, but anyone who is suffering from PTSD.”

The free movie screening is Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Chumash Tribal Hall in Santa Ynez.
