Bishop Diego, Cate Both Win Saturday OT Games
Bishop Diego got rewarded for a long bus ride as they overcame a 14-0 deficit and won 20-17 in overtime at Immanuel in Reedley. Both teams entered the game undefeated at 6-0. Danny Molina’s second touchdown of the game, a two-yard run in overtime gave the Cardinals the win over the top-ranked team in the CIF Division 5 Central Section.
Molina had a twelve yard run with just 1:17 left in the game to tie it at 14. Abel Gonzalez scored on a four-yard run in the third quarter to trim the deficit to 14-7.
Immanuel-Reedley scored a touchdown in the first and second quarter to lead 14-0 at the half. Bishop Diego hosts Fillmore next Saturday at Santa Barbara City College.
In eight-man football Cate of Carpinteria scored a mild upset win over previously undefeated Orcutt Academy 42-36 in overtime. The home Rams, ranked 13th in the state, improved to 4-2 and now get set to host Laguna Blanca next Saturday.
The visiting Spartans who are ranked third in the state, fall to 6-1 and will play at number one Thacher next Saturday.
