‘Gold is the New Green’ Signs Available in Santa Barbara

Residents who have been saving water during the four year drought have also seen their green lawns turn from brown to gold. Now they can celebrate their water savings. Signs are now available in Santa Barbara that say “Gold is the new Green.”

Madeline Ward the acting Water Conservation Manager says, “gold is the new green, is how we are encouraging people to be proud of their golden lawn. Some say they are brown but they are gold. California is the Golden State so during the drought when they people are cutting back and they are not watering their front lawn or even their parkway, we want them to be proud of that because they are doing the right thing.”

The signs are available for free in the lobby at the Public Works Building on 630 Garden St. There is a limit of two per property.
