Protesters Call For Capps Staffer Resignation

A small group of protesters held signs outside Rep. Lois Capps campaign headquarters in Santa Barbara Wednesday afternoon.

They are calling for the resignation of campaign staff member Mollie Culver. Protesters and Santa Barbara Tea Party President Steve Thomas said she is accused of forging documents to help ex-staffer Raymond Morua get into a veteran’s treatment program after his arrest.

Morua is an Iraq War veteran who said he was on the job the night he left a newspaper’s holiday party and ran into Mallorie Dies. The Santa Barbara bartender was walking across a street to meet friends when she was struck by Morua’s car.

She was taken off life support days later.

Morua is now serving a 20-year-to-life sentence. He had a prior record that included driving under the influence and hit-and-run that Capps staff was not aware of.

The Democratic congresswoman was not in her office during the protest, but said she would not be surprised by a protest outside the office. She said it is a public place.
