New Changes on How Bags Will be Screened at San Luis Obispo Airport

Checking in bags at San Luis Obispo Regional Airport has a gotten a little easier and faster for travelers.

The airport is now using a screening machine that will scan bags more efficiently and quickly.

Rex Cordero is a father of four boys. He says traveling “can get a little a difficult at times [when] trying to keep everyone in line and getting everything checked, especially when you throw in like extra car seats and stuff.”

Before getting the latest technology to screen luggage for explosives, Transportation Security Administration officers had to physically check every bag one-by-one.

TSA spokesman Nico Melendez tells KEYT/KCOY/KKFX’s Cory James that manual screening caused long lines and injuries because, “a lot of the bags are heavy and our workforce has to pick them up throughout the day for an eight-hour shift and that can be very painful.”

TSA says the $340,000 gadget will set off an alarm if a bag needs to be manually inspected.

Passengers seem to be on board with the new change and one told us getting [her] ticket and bag checked took 10 minutes.

Cordero, who was dropping his brother off at the airport, says he is looking forward to not having to wait “in line checking in and having [his] kids running around.”
