World Championship of Guacamole Claimed by Mark Schniepp
The “World Championship of Guacamole” has been claimed by Mark Schniepp in a contest held Sunday during the California Avocado Festival in Carpinteria.
There were 21 entries.
The judging on taste, texture and presentation was done by a team consisting of chefs, farmers, celebrities and food writers. A member of the California Avocado Commission also participated.
Schniepp said his entry included local farmers market avocados, red onions, cilantro, tomatoes, garlic, salt and some secret preparation techniques that he will likely protect as he prepares to defend his title a year from now. He used an avocado lifeguard around a pool of guacamole in a summer scene as his presentation.
Schniepp is a local economic analyst and owns the California Economic Forecast company.
After the judging, the public was able to taste the entries until they were gone.
The event was hosted by Mike Dawson who used the “Rocky” movie theme music when the winner was announced.
