Santa Barbara Fishermen Rescue Shark Attack Victims

Twice on Friday, a pair of local fisherman helped kayakers in ocean waters off Point Conception who issued mayday calls after encounters with sharks.

Lou and Charles Christman had been fishing for sea bass when they heard the first call for help about 60 miles north of the Santa Barbara Harbor where they put their boat named Elizabeth Ann in the water.

They found one kayak fisherman clinging to a kayak damaged by a great white shark. They rescued the kayaker and two of this friends

They pulled the men onto their boat and towed their kayaks and dropped them off at Vandenberg’s boathouse.

A few of the friends stayed behind in another kayak and kept fishing, but an hour later they called for help too.

They found another man on a badly damaged kayak and rescued him and his friends.

The Christmans did not get a good look at the shark but they don’t think is is safe to kayak fish in that area.

They returned to the Santa Barbara harbor without any sea bass but a great story to tell.
