Man Killed in Santa Maria Freeway Accident Identified

The man killed Wednesday night while walking in freeway lanes on Highway 101 has been identified as 50-year-old Michael Cimoric. California Highway Patrol investigators report his last address being in Santa Barbara, but he may have moved to Santa Maria.

Cimoric was struck and killed Wednesday night near the Broadway exit. He has family on the East Coast, possibly Pittsburgh area.

The driver who hit the man is a 35-year old Nipomo resident. Charges were not filed against her.

One lane of Highway 101 South was closed while investigators gathered evidence. It re-opened a couple of hours later.
