High Surf Advisory For Central Coast

According to the National Weather Service, a storm in the Pacific Ocean is prompting a high surf advisory for most of the Central Coast through Friday morning.

Local officials are warning all beach-goers to use extreme caution when going into the water.

Nine to 11 foot waves can be expected along parts of the coast, with some places experiencing bigger waves.

The Oceano Dunes district within the State Parks department only has one lifeguard on duty during weekends this time of the year, so no one will be duty Thursday.

Rangers tell us beach-goers should be extremely careful and wary of rip tides. Rangers say the best thing to do if you get caught in one is to start swimming parallel to the coastline.
