Man Arrested for Mission Canyon Thefts

Santa Barbara County Sheriff Department released the following information Wednesday:

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a suspect believed responsible for numerous thefts in the Mission Canyon area of Santa Barbara over the course of the past four months.

Thanks to the assistance of neighbors in the area who assisted law enforcement with videos and photos, Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s detectives were able to identify and arrest the suspect, 22-year-old Cody Clark of Santa Barbara, who also lived in the Mission Canyon area.

On September 12, 2014 Sheriff’s detectives served a search warrant at Clark’s residence located in the 1100 block of Edgemound Drive.

During the service of the search warrant, more than 50 pieces of stolen property were recovered including jewelry, computer components, cell phones, cameras, wallets and a bicycle.

Clark was booked at the Santa Barbara County Jail and charged with possession of stolen property and grand theft. Through the course of the investigation, detectives discovered that Clark committed most of the thefts at night and obtained the majority of the stolen property from unlocked vehicles.

If you live in the Mission Canyon area and believe you are the victim of a theft and/or are missing property, please contact the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Criminal Investigations Division at 805-681-4150 or the anonymous Tip-Line at 805-681-4171.

The Sheriff’s Office wants to remind residents to always lock their vehicles and residences, including garage doors.

Even if your vehicle is locked, do not keep valuables in your car and put away anything that may be considered valuable.

The Sheriff’s Office wants to commend the Mission Canyon neighborhood for working together with law enforcement to help solve this case.

We encourage neighbors to look out for each other and to report suspicious activity to law enforcement right away.
