Humane Society Seeks Donations To Feed Neglected Horses

The Ventura County Humane Society in Ojai is known for sheltering dogs and cats, but these days there are neglected horses too.

Four horses were seized this month from two properties in Fillmore.

Some of them looked like they were starved from neglect.

Jolene Hoffman said it will be up to the district attorney to file charges. It is up to the shelter to nurse the horses back to health.

It may take months and thousands of dollars to do so.

The horses need special Alfalfa that is expensive due to the drought.

Hoffman said she hasn’t seen horses in this poor a shape in years.

The shelter also has two other malnourished horses brought in earlier this year.

People willing to donate cash or feed gift cards can go to www.humanesocietyvc.org.
