Santa Barbara Organic Soup Kitchen Offers Free Samples
The Organic Soup Kitchen in Santa Barbara is planning to prepare soup “to go” for local residents.
The non-profit has been known for hosting large scale holiday meals for those in need locally, that have gone well beyond soup. Turkey dinners have included all the side dishes, dessert and even live entertainment at the Veteran’s Memorial Building in Santa Barbara on Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Today, six soups were offered to 100 residents at the Public Market as part of a tasting experience. Each guest was asked to rate the soup and it will help the organizers decide which ones will be prepared as part of the new plan to sell soup in local stores and coffee shops for customers to take home.
Each one will be, “all be vegan, organic, gluten free, low glycemic and anti inflammatory,” said Organic Soup Kitchen founder AnthonyCarroccio. “If you want a nutrient dense meal this is it.”
Some of the soup samples included roasted tomato, curry lentil, French potato leek and roasted yam.
The organization hopes the sale of soup will help to establish a baseline of funding for its operations to go with any grants or donations that come in.
Among those to taste the soups included Santa Barbara County Supervisor Janet Wolf, and philanthropist Larry Crandell.
Each guest also received a new Organic Soup Kitchen cotton shopping bag.
