Avon Walk for Breast Cancer Raises Millions For Research and Treatment

The Avon Walk for Breast Cancer wrapped up Sunday at Carpinteria State Beach.

It’s the 12th year of the weekend-long fundraising event to raise money for breast cancer research and provide access to screening and treatment for all women.

Two thousand people, including breast cancer survivors, trekked 39.3 miles through Santa Barbara and Carpinteria over two days.

Each walker raised a minimum of 1,800 dollars, but most exceeded that goal.

The group raised 4.6 million dollars and organizers say up to 85 percent of the money will be used here at home and throughout Southern California.
