Report Finds July Lake Cachuma Death was Accidental
A coroner’s report confirms the July death of a 22-year-old Oxnard man in Cachuma Lake was accidental drowning.
The body of Isaiah Sanchez was found by a fisherman 10 days after he went missing when he left a boat with engine problems and started swimming toward the shore. According to the reports, witnesses saw him dip beneath the water and not come back up again.
Nearly 60 family members spent days scouring the lake shore and water searching for Sanchez.
“It’s good to be here at this moment. Now we can move on and the family can find some rest and peace and not have to worry about Isaiah not being found,” said Sanchez’ uncle Richard Muos.
Toxicology results from the coroner’s report indicate at the time of his death, Sanchez had a blood alcohol level of .10, which is above the legal limit to drive. Tests also indicated marijuana in his system.
Sanchez’ body was taken back to his home community in the Imperial Valley for funeral services.
