Vandenberg Monkey Flowers Endangered

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has listed the Vandenberg Monkey Flower as an endangered species.

The flower is found only within sandy openings of Burton Mesa in the Santa Barbara County between the Purisima Hills to the north and the Santa Ynez River to the south.

Expansion of veldt grass and other invasive plants may soon make the Monkey Flower become extinct. The small annual herb grows up to 10 inches tall and produces yellow flowers on purple tinted stems.
