Santa Maria Police Investigate 1st Murder Of The Year

Santa Maria Police are investigating the city’s first homicide of the year. They say this one was between two men who got into a physical fight.

26-year-old Ismael Jacinto-Cruz was arrested on the scene Saturday night. Officers say he was involved in a fight at an apartment on the 1000 block of West Orange Street.

When they arrived, they found a male dead inside. After talking to witnesses, police say it all started when things got physical.

“The suspect may have hit him with an object I don’t know but there was no stabbing no shooting. It was a physical fight,” said Santa Maria Police Lt. James Ginter.

Jacinto-Cruz was taken into custody and booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail on murder charges.

The victim has not been identified.
