Man Charged With DUI After Sideswiping Patrol Car

A Santa Barbara man is behind bars, accused of side-swiping a parked patrol car while driving under the influence.

Two Santa Maria California Highway Patrol officials were investigating a car crash on Highway 101 north of Palmer Road over the weekend.

CHP officials say Kevin Dawson was driving more than 85 miles per hour when his car drifted and hit the parked patrol car.

Dawson’s Ford Ranger continued heading northbound until it struck a dirt embankment, causing it to overturn several times. No one was hurt, and both cars suffered major damage.
