Back-To-School Giveaway Helps Central Coast Parents

The start of the school year is around the corner and families in the Central Coast are already stocking up on back-to-school supplies.

Back–to-school supplies come at a price. According to the national retail federal spending is up 5 percent this year. Families with k-12 th grade children will spent around 670 dollars.

Parents in Santa Maria said they’re doing their homework to find the best deals, and it all adds up.

To ease that burden McDonald’s partnered up with non-profit groups around the community.

Marcos Salazar, supervisor of Central Coast McDonald’s said “It’s been a huge success the last two years.”

Salazar said “This is something to create some kind of excitement for the kids.”

The lines at Santa Maria started at 5:30 in the morning and wrapped around the building two times.

Lisa Ray with the Children’s Resource Network, said “We were anticipating 200 families but it’s probably closer to 400-500 families. We restocked our trailer twice today.”
