Solo Paddle Boarder Making World Record Canada-to-Mexico Trip

A new world record is on the line and it’s all to benefit a good cause.

One man is paddle boarding more than 1,400 miles from Canada to the Mexico border. That man is Will Schmidt.

Friday morning, Schmidt began day 50 of his journey at Refugio State Beach and ended it Friday night in Carpinteria.

The former U.S. Marine is making this trip to raise money for the Wounded Warrior Project. Schmidt once suffered from severe depression and anxiety. He says paddle boarding was how he was able to gain a new lease on life and wants to help other current and former service members.

Schmidt thinks he has about nine days left on his trip. So far he’s raised $6,000, all of it going to the Wounded Warriors Project.
