Santa Maria Wisdom Center Burglary Leaves Many Upset

It’s been about one month since the Santa Maria Wisdom Center was burglarized.

Linda Gadbois, program director at the center, said “They basically ransacked the inside of the center taking anything that they felt was worth anything.”

Among the items burglars took, DVD players, DVD’s, a flat screen television, and a cash box containing funds for the center.

The Santa Maria Wisdom Center brings together Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo County’s elderly. It serves about 80 medically frail or developmentally disabled elderly people.

Warner Jue, a volunteer, said “It was a sad thing to happen and there was no need for it.”

Jue said “It seems like a big hole missing we miss it [the television] and I hope somebody would return It.”

Volunteers say they were able to dig up a radio for entertainment.

Jue said they used the television while serving people tea or coffee in the morning, or for playing video games. Now they’re left without a television in the morning.

With help from the community the center hopes their television is restored.
