Surf Beach is Closed Through Fall

Surf Beach will be closed from June 27, to September 30 due to exceeding the number of violations allowed by beach restrictions set to protect the federally-listed Snowy Plover birds.

Many people were turned away from a day at the beach in Lompoc. Surf beach is closed because of an excessive number of violations that could endanger the Snowy Plover.

The snowy plover has been a threatened species since March 1993.

The birds are found along the coasts of California, Oregon, and Washington.

Beach restrictions aren’t new to surf beach during the Snowy Plover’s nesting season, and if people follow the restrictions parts of the beach will stay open.

Violations happen when people go into the restricted area where the birds are nesting.
