Commemorating Homeless Deaths

For National Homeless Persons Memorial day, San Luis Obispo County held a candlelight vigil outside of the county courthouse Thursday evening.

11 candles were lit to represent the number of homeless people who have died in the streets of San Luis Obispo County this year.

That is 4 more than last year.

The vigil brought attention to the growing homeless population.

There are over 2,000 in San Luis Obispo and over 6,000 in Santa Barbara County.

9 in 10 have no shelter and are forced to face the dangers of sleeping in the streets.

San Luis Obispo County says they are joining a campaign to bring new housing to homeless people.

I’LL HAVE MORE ON WHAT HAPPENS HERE FOR YOU AT 6.
