Local Woman Speaks Out About LAX Shooting Experience
Oxnard native Valeria Velasco was among the large crowd in terminal 3 during the LAX shooting on Friday.
“I had never experienced something where I had to literally run for my life. I’m sure a lot of people who were there can say the same thing,” said Velasco.
Velasco and her husband and friends where on their way to Vegas when they heard over six gunshots and witnessed people running frantically.
“It’s crazy how your body just takes over and you can’t even think about what you’re doing. You’re just shoving tables and moving people out of the way just to get to safety,” said Velasco.
They ran to the back of a restaurant pushing together booths and tables as a shield. Within 10 minutes of hiding, cops came into the restaurant to reassure that they were safe. Hours later Velasco and her friends were escorted to a different terminal.
“We’re just happy that it wasn’t worse,” she said.
