Rain Caused Road and Power Problems

A dry spell ended with a bit of rain. Forecasters called it the first measurable rain since May. But it wasn’t without problems. The wet road caused a pickup truck driver to skid into the side of a school bus near Donavan and Broadway in Santa Maria. About 30 children were aboard the bus. Two of them were treated for minor injuries.

Santa Barbara City fire crews said oil and grease that hasn’t been washed away can be slick if it hasn’t rained in a while.

They also said cars need two to three times more stopping distance when roads are wet.

The rain serves as a reminder to maintain your car by repairing wipers, brakes, tires and defrosters when needed.

Under California law, if your wipers are on, your headlights should be on too.

First responders said it’s safer to disengage your cruise control in harsh weather.
