Undocumented immigrants apply for driver’s licenses
California legislators recently signed a bill that will allow undocumented immigrants to apply for a driver’s license.
Governor Jerry Brown backed up the bill on Thursday, adding California to the growing list of states allowing immigrants to apply for a driver’s licenses.
Local supporters of the bill said that it will create jobs and make people feel safer on the roads.
The license will look slightly different; it will carry a distinction on the front of the card it will state that it can only be used for driving and not as a federal identification.
For the past several years, immigrantswho were caught driving without a license would have their cars impounded and they end up would end up being screened by the federal immigration authorities for deportation.
California is now the 10th state that will allow undocumented immigrants to be able to apply for driver’s license.
