A new day for same sex couples
It wasa landmark day Wednesday as the Supreme Court ruled on same sex marriage. In a 5-4 vote, the high court declared that the Defense of Marriage Act, the law barring the federal government from recognizing gay marriages legalized by the states, is unconstitutional. This now means that gay coupleswho are legally married will be entitled to federal benefits just like any other married couple.
Also, California’s Proposition 8 is no more. Gay couples will be able to wed in the state, making it the 13th state in the country to allow same-sex unions.
