Fire broke out at local stereo, smoke shop

A fire broke out at a local business shutting down part of Milpas Street on Monday.

Fire crews got to the 100 block of Milpas Street just after 11:45 a.m. where black smoke poured out of the attic of a stereo and smoke shop.

Firefighters cut a hole in the roof to let the smoke out. When they got inside, they found a few speakers on fire.

“It’s amazing how much smoke plastic can put off and the kind of heat signature it can put off. So that’s what we were dealing with. Not a big fire, but a smokey fire,” said Capt. Robert Hazel, Santa Barbara City Fire Department.

The flames were out less than a half hour later. The cause of the fire is under investigation .
