Speier signs with Red Sox

Former Dos Pueblos High School star Gabe Speier has chosen pro baseball over UC Santa Barbara. According to Baseball America, the 19th round draft pick of Boston agreed to a 200,000 signing bonus with the Red Sox.

Normally 19th round picks do not receive anywhere close to that kind of bonus. Speier was expected to go higher in the draft plus he had the option of pitching for the Gauchos next year.

Speier helped the Chargers win back-to-back Channel League titles.
