Man arrested after making threats at Vandenberg Air Force Base

Normal operations at Vandenberg Air Force Base have resumed after a man made serious threats to personnel on Friday night.

Base defenders detained a man driving a stolen car at the Santa Maria Gate after he made threatening comments.

The car was swept for explosive devices. But, none were found.

The man was turned over to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office.

Traffic on both northbound and southbound lanes of Highway 1 was diverted away from the Santa Maria Gate during the investigation and reopened at 1:45 a.m. on Saturday.

Officials say the incident remains under investigation.
