Update: Bomb threat at Vons grocery store parking lot
Santa BarbaraCounty Sheriff’sDeputies arrested a16-year old boy Friday, after the teen made a bomb threat.
Officials told NewsChannel 3 police in Washington State alerted Santa Barbara County Sheriff about an at-risk teen.
The sheriff’s department found the troubled teen atthe Vons grocery store parking lot on Hollister and Turnpike in Santa Barbara County. They tookthe teeninto custody. During questioning, officials said, the teen made a statement about having explosives in his car.
Deputies and the SWAT team created a perimeter around the Vons parking lot centering around a white SUV. The bomb squad is on the way to investigate the car.
California Highway Patrol was on scene providing traffic control. Four businesses in the shopping center were evacuated during the investigation.
The bomb squad was called in. They found what they call simulated devices. Officials say they were potentially functional, and could have been dangerous. They also found a modified air soft gun.
The parking lot at the Vons grocery storewas shutdown while the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department investigates the threat.
The threat also caused officials at San Marcos High to place the school on lockdown.
San Marcos School said in a social media post, the lockdown was lifted at 1:05 p.m. and the students will have move into their lunch period.
