Letter carriers try to stamp out hunger

The shelves are far from full at Food Share of Ventura County, which is why the Letter Carriers’ Food Drive couldn’t come at a better time.

They delivered recyclable blue bags this week. The bags have a cartoon by Jeff Keane that reads: “C’mon! It’ll be a lot easier if you help, too! “

That is the feeling at food banks throughout the central coast.

During the summer months donations seem to slow.

Food drive organizers are asking people to donated food they think their hungry friends and neighbors might like.

Tami Allred stopped by Food Share in Oxnard to provide food for people who visit her church. Allred said she hopes the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive will help her find healthy choices.

All nonperishable items should be placed by mail boxes Saturday, May 11, for pick up.
