Roosevelt Elementary School kicks off screen free week challenge

Roosevelt Elementary School joined thousands of schoolsnationwide in a coordinated effort to encourage millions of Americans to turn off televisions, computers, and video games for seven days and become more active.

Screen – Free Weekis a chance for children to read, play, think, create, be more physically active, and to spend more time with friends and family. This comes after studies have shown that excessive screen time is linked to a number of problems for children, including childhood obesity, poor school performance, and problems with attention span.

Wendi Ostroff, a sixth-grade teacher at Roosevelt says it’s a great way to raise awareness, and even if the kids aren’t able to do it for a week,even a few days can go a longway.
