One man injured in fiery accident in Santa Maria

A man is recovering after a fiery crash on highway 101 in Santa Maria.

The accident happened about 2:15 a.m. Thursday morning near the South Betteravia Road offramp.

CHP officials say the man was traveling at speeds up to 100 mph when his car hit the center divide, spun out of control, and caught fire.

The driver fled the scene, but was found about a 1/4 mile from the accident.

He was transported to a local hospital with unknown injuries.

Officials don’t know if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
