Point Mugu air show and Blue Angels visit cancelled
The Blue Angels won’t be putting on a show at the 44th Point Mugu Air Show this September.
Naval Base Ventura County invited the Blue Angels to headline the show, but government cuts called sequestration led to their cancellation this week. Today they learned the show was being canceled too. Deputy Public Affairs officer Vance Vasquez said it’s a big disappointment. Vasquez said they have already done a lot of work to prepare for their visit.
Last month, the base cut other events that are not considered essential. They include the annual Point Mugu Surf Contest and Mudd Run.
There are not many events that allow the public onto the base. Vasquez said the special events are intended to show taxpayers how their money is spent. They also serve as recruiting tools.
The Blue Angels haven’t performed in Ventura County since 1999.
