County officials upset at big Isla Vista events
Santa Barbara County is worried about the impacts of future unscheduled Isla Vista events. The so called Spring Break “Deltopia” gathering was, at times, overwhelming for emergency personnel.
Third District County Supervisor Doreen Farr has been debriefed by sheriff and fire officials on the calls for service, damages, and impacts from the event.
She said public safety concerns are her top priority but found many serious issues from her review of the weekend street party.
“I think the disregard for private property, the disregard for the residents you may be living in, the disrespect of people trying to go about their normal business, and potential damage is just unacceptable. It should not be tolerated,” said Farr.
In the next few days Farr plans to meet again with emergency workers, UC Santa Barbara officials and Isla Vista leaders to talk about the unscheduled, unpermitted events that may take place in the future.
She did say, adding more deputies to control these events will be very costly at a time when the county does not have surplus money.
