Storage yard fire damages outside materials
The cause of a storage yard fire near the Santa Barbara waterfront is under investigation.
The fire started at 1:20 p.m. near the railroad tracks between Garden and Santa Barbara streets. Officials reported that smoke was seen from blocks away.
Santa Barbara City Fire officials said crews quickly put out the fire since it was contained to the exterior of the yard. “Access was a little challenging,” said Santa Barbara City Fire Captain Gary Pitney. “There was a locked gate and there was a couple of different ways to come at this fire.”
Items burned included stacks of roofing shingles and other stored materials. The flames were also near a boat.
Fire investigators interviewed property owners and witnesses to figure out why the fire started.
