Gauchos strike first in crucial weekend series against Cal Poly
In a series that UCSB needs to win Austin Pettibone turned in an outstanding performance as the Gauchos defeated Cal Poly 4-2 in a Big West Conference game. It was the Mustangs first league loss on the year in four games while UCSB improves to 2-2.
Pettibone allowed just two runs and six hits in eight innings of work as he outdueled Cal Poly’s ace Joey Wagman. Pettibone is now 4-2 on the year.
Jackson Morrow’s bases-loaded single to center snapped a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the sixth as Brandon Trinkwon scored. The Gauchos added two more runs in the seventh. The Mustangs got one back in the eighth but UCSB closer Dylan Hecht struck out the side in the ninth.
