Santa Maria man leads officers on a car chase
A Santa Maria man is under arrest, after leading Santa Maria Police on a car chase.
It happened Sunday just before noon. Officers attempted to pull the car over on E. Main Street.
The driver, Jeremy Cassaro, 26, stopped briefly before speeding off. Officers followed him through the northeast area of town, before Cassaro hit a curb at Fesler and Suey. That caused one of his tires to pop.
Cassaro continued to drive from officers, but was only able to go about 20 miles per hour. During that time, officers say they saw Cassaro throw evidence from the car. Cassaro stopped the car on North Palisade, where officers arrested him.
Cassaro was booked into county jail for reckless evading, possession for sale of a controlled substance, transportation of a controlled substance, and hit and run.
He also had an outstanding felony warrant for his arrest.
