California Supreme Court allows for Tibor Karsai’s release

A convicted sex offender will soon be released into Santa Barbara County as a transient.

The Santa Barbara District Attorney’s office released a statement Tuesday saying the California Supreme Court has denied their petition to keep Tibor Karsai out of the county.

This comes after DA Joyce Dudley did everything she could to request Karsai not be released into Santa Barbara County, including two appeals to the Supreme Court and one to the Third District Court.

Karsai was convicted of raping a 16-year-old girl in Northern California in 1980. He served 30 years in prison, and is currently in a mental hospital in Placer County.

He is expected to be released in Santa Barbara County in the next two weeks.
